A detailed investigation on highly dense CuZr bulk metallic glasses for shielding purposes

Abstract Gamma-ray shielding properties of eight different metallic glasses based on Cu x Zr100- : = 35 (Cu35Zr65) ? 70 (Cu70Zr30) were determined using Monte Carlo simulations and Phy-X/PSD software. A typical gamma-ray transmission setup has been modeled in MCNPX code. The general trend the linear attenuation coefficients ( ? ) was reported as Cu35Zr65 < Cu40Zr60 Cu45Zr55 Cu50Zr50 Cu55Zr45 Cu60Zr40 Cu65Zr35 Cu70Zr30 . In terms half value layer (HVL) values, sample highest (2.984 cm) lowest (2.769 at 8 MeV photon energy. mean free path (MFP) values 4.305 3.995 cm for samples, respectively. Generally, MFP HVL studied (MFP,HVL) > all energy range. showed maximum both effective conductivity C eff electron density N ). addition, minimum exposure absorption buildup factor (EBF EABF) energies. results revealed that superior among samples.
